Housing Ambassador Assistant

Project Objective

Stonewall CDC has been issued a contract by HPD under the Accessibility Expansion Program to address the access disparities of New Yorkers seeking affordable housing.  Stonewall CDC serves all New Yorkers but has a particular expertise in helping older adults master the technology and takes special care to make sure LGBTQ seniors are included and can fully participate, in a culture that is increasing online.

We help with setting up a client’s profile, submitting applications for affordable housing and following up throughout the process. We provide any technical assistance as well as explain income eligibility, household composition and set-a-sides/preferences. We offer large information sessions, smaller group information session and individual applicant assistance sessions.

 

Roles and responsibilities: 

This is a position providing assistance with group information sessions and as well as individual application assistance. This position will cover a standing “shift” of appointments on the same day and time on weekly basis on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The housing ambassador assistant is expected to maintain a log for the assistance provided.

Qualifications: Applicants should have:

  • Familiarity with Zoom and access to a computer with a stable internet connection

  • Willingness to undergo training on Housing Connect and Housing Connect 2.0

  • Willingness to undergo training on eligibility, set/asides and household composition

  • A calm and patient demeanor

  • Time management and self-organization skills

Compensation
This position is part time with an expected 5 hours per week @ $20/hr. Stonewall CDC is a small but growing organization, if the Housing Ambassador Assistant is a good fit there is opportunity for an expanded position as the program grows.

SVNYC Program Assistant 

Project Objective

As part of our work we have developed an interactive platform called Stonewall Village NYC. SVNYC is an operational interactive online platform that was designed to allow attendance and participation by older adults isolated at home, now essential during this period of enforced social distancing. We are opening up our virtual center, to other organizations that have had to close in person operations so they can maintain contact with and activities for their clients.

We’d love to see every CBO and community member come out of this safe, healthy, and more plugged into the community than ever before. To create that sense community and empower older adults to remain connected to these critical services take a village.

Roles and responsibilities:

Help older adults understand and use the platform. Learn the simple platform and then:

  • Answer our support line for folks with questions

  • Help members with the simple set up of the Zoom on their devices

  • Train and mentor other volunteers

  • Facilitate Zoom activities by opening the meeting and greeting attendees


Help to make members feel like part of a community

  • Follow up with a warm welcome call for new members

  • Engage with members via discussion forums

  • Build a sense of community by reaching out to members on a reoccurring basis

  • Mentor a Member Interest or discussion Group


Help us be responsive to the needs of the community

  • Relay feedback from members to staff

  • Provide feedback based on your experience with the platform and its members

 

Compensation:

This is a part-time position for up to 12 hours per week. $15/hour. No benefits are provided. This position will take place remotely.
